A Very Dawson Thanksgiving

The whole Dawson Thanksgiving clan.

This Thanksgiving we followed what has become tradition since we bought our first real house some 12 years ago -- we hosted.

Back in Sacramento my parents and Brett's parents would all come over. Some years we'd be joined by aunts, uncles and cousins. Now that we're a state away, we still are lucky enough to have family come visit us during the holiday.

And I'm happy to say that this won't go down in the family history as one of those get-togethers marred by a turkey that isn't thoroughl
y cooked and needs to be microwaved or a candle overturning and burning a black spot on the wall (Christmas Eve 5 or 6 years ago), or renegade grilling that nearly engulfs my cousin's wife in flames (summer cookout about 4 years ago). Not that we're placing blame ... coughBrett.

We all had a great time this Thanksgiving ... the boys played their traditional football game. Only a few minor injuries reported. Not like last year when poor Grandpa took a major spill, or so I'm told.

We drank wine, ate our traditional dishes, including a creamed corn that had an insane amount of cream cheese and butter. Did I real
ly put all of that into one dish? And more cream cheese in the yummy apple pecan cheesecake I made for the first time.

Grandma and Grandpa brought their chihuahua Foxy for their visit ... she's a big hit with the kids. Except for Blake. At one point he finally allowed her in his lap, only to be startled with a loud yowl and jump a couple minutes into the getting-to-know-you session.

Throughout the rest of the holiday weekend, we celebrated Grandpa's birthday, Blake had a soccer tournament, we put up our Christmas tree and decorations, we went to the movies, we drank more wine. Good times.

Blake loads his plate; every year he eats a drumstick.

The kids' end of the table.

Nick and Foxy.
